Jessy Razafimandimby (born in 1995, Madagascar) lives and works in Geneva. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the Geneva University of Art & Design (HEAD) in 2018.
His multidisciplinary production encompasses painting, drawing, installation and performance. Jessy Razafimandimby draws upon baroque imagery traversed by organic forms in which chimeric figures appear, producing simultaneously “dystopian and utopian” hallucinations. The artist is interested in interior design and ornament, while exploring the concept of “home”. Through his systematic study of decorative motives, he develops a critical discourse on the bourgeois, class-based system of taste and social conventions. He works at the intersection between painting and performance: his body enacts movements inspired by his visual art, while his drawings and paintings trap and fix physical motion.
Razafimandimby is one of the winners of the Kunstpreis Kiefer Hablitzel 2021 - Swiss Art Awards. He has had solo exhibitions at 13 vitrine, Renens (2021); Espace HIT, Geneva (2021); Arsenic, Lausanne (2020); 1.1., Basel (2020). In 2022, the artist will have solo presentations at Sans titre (2016), Paris and at A.ROMY, Zurich.
